The New MS

You already know what the Sikaflex MS Sealant is, but do you know what the Sikaflex-123 MS Bond aka the MS Bond is?

Most builders are already users of our Sikaflex MS sealant and know what a quality product it is. Now we have this new MS… Sikaflex-123 MS Bond (MS Bond to its friends) which is an adhesive and sealant in one. So what are you going to love about it? The adhesive is very strong, yet the elasticity of the sealant ensures a very durable connection, AND it will bond to just about every building substrate, even the more elusive bitumen, damp concrete and most plastics. Sounds like a winner to us – give it a go!

What is a sick home?

A sick home may in short make its occupants and household furniture sick over time.

Cold and humid homes give the ideal living conditions to contaminants like fungi, (black) mould and dust mites. All of these have been linked to the development of asthma, respiratory diseases, cardiac problems and allergic reactions.

Making sure your home is healthy should not just be a priority for rental homes. It should be a priority for all homes as cold and humid conditions – aside from taking a toll on human health – also cause extra and untimely expenditures for replacements of furniture and renovations.

BuildLink Recipes

We are proud to present the BuildLink recipes – for the first time ever! We are proud to present not only one, but two recipes, one of them supplied from our Premium Supply Partner, Ampelite.

Tuna with Mango Asparagus Salsa

A sumptuous tuna dish consisting of quick fried tuna with a crisp and sweet salsa. Some would perhaps not call it a salsa, but we figure that if Salsa Verde is salsa, then this is too! The sweet mango compliments the fresh asparagus and intense red onion very well.

We have made it for New Year’s Eve as something a little flash – or it can be down-dressed for a casual situation. The salsa is versatile and works well with a variety of dishes.

This is a must make.

Basil Pesto Snapper with Roast Tomatoes and Crushed Lemon and Herb Potatoes

A dish supplied by our Premium Supply Partner, Ampelite. We hear this is a favourite on their dinner table. Fresh baby potatoes with crushed lemon and herbs – potentially dill – makes this dish a winner on the dinner table in no time.

The basil pesto gives the fish a really tender taste and ensures that it does not dry out while in the oven. It is a very customisable dish, so you can replace the pesto with another – and even the fish with a different type if you would like.

We think this is the perfect spring dinner dish!

If you make either of them, we would love to see them, so please tag them with #buildlinkrecipes on social media!

While the car keys are not exercised much these days, Josh states that he is quite happy with the administrative side of the business.

Healthy Homes Standards

On 1 July 2019, the Healthy Homes Standards became law. On 1 July 2021, all private rental agreements – new or renewed on or after this date – must be compliant with the Standards. These Standards aim to raise the standard of rental homes throughout New Zealand.

The Standards focus on ensuring healthier and warmer rental homes, which benefits both landlords and tenants!

Tenancy Services notes the following focus areas:

Heating: “Landlords must provide one or more fixed heaters that can directly heat the main living room. The heater(s) must be acceptable types, and must meet the minimum heating capacity required for your main living room.”

Insulation: “Ceiling and underfloor insulation has been compulsory in all rental homes since 1 July 2019. The healthy homes insulation standard builds on the current regulations and some existing insulation will need to be topped up or replaced.”

Ventilation: “Rental homes must have openable windows in the living room, dining room, kitchen and bedrooms. Kitchens and bathrooms must have extractor fans.”

Moisture ingress & drainage: “Rental properties must have efficient drainage for the removal of storm water, surface water and ground water. Rental properties with an enclosed sub-floor space must have a ground moisture barrier.”

Draught stopping: “Landlords must make sure the property doesn’t have unreasonable gaps or holes in walls, ceilings, windows, skylights, floors and doors which cause noticeable draughts. All unused open fireplaces must be closed off or their chimneys must be blocked to prevent draughts.”

If you are a landlord, it may well be worth your time and money to do a bit of planning to ensure your rental is compliant before 2024. Head on down to your local BuildLink store and hear how they can help!

E-Z Hold Heavy Duty Clamp

Sometimes unlikely matches are the start of something great. This is what happened when former opera singer Adele Holman teamed up with cabinetmaker Hans Jørgensen and tool salesman Marcus Russ in 1903.

A trailblazer for her time, Adele Holman went into manufacturing, which was unheard of. She even signed her documents ‘A. V. Holman’ to hide her identity!

And indeed it was a start of something great – and even quite lasting. The match between Holman, Jørgensen and Russ saw the beginning of the Pony Jorgensen clamps, which to this day equals quality, tradition and strength.

Coming from a proud tradition of other great Danish cabinet- & furniture making, Jørgensen patented a handscrew featuring steel adjusting screws at first.

Today, the clamps feature significant clamping forces ranging between 272 – 453.5 kg.

As Toolware tells us: “Unique Jorgensen E-Z HOLD bar clamps allow for rapid and easy clamping and can easily be converted to spreader clamps. The contoured comfort grip and quick release lever make it simple to get a firm grasp, and our exclusive patented feature lets you join two clamps together to create a clamp with more than double the opening capacity of a single clamp. Deep reach 92 mm pads help protect your work.”

Pop into your local BuildLink Store today to see how the E-Z Clamps can help you in your daily work!

The Cover

It is always a hard decision picking a magazine cover.

This often sets the tone for the whole magazine, and in this issue, we are proud to be featuring our very own General Manager, Simon Burden, on our cover.

However, we don’t want to cheat you out of a few of the other options we considered for our cover. All of these covers are amazing, but in the end, we agreed that we wanted something to represent the changes BuildLink Group Ltd and the National Support Office have gone through since January. Since this issue of the magazine is the initial issue of our rebranded magazine, we believe that the chosen cover is the best to represent exactly the path we are on.

A Quiet Home is a Good Home

CSR Bradford’s range of thermal and acoustic insulation products cater to almost every insulation need you may have. However, do you know why it is important to ensure that your home is quiet?

Beside the more obvious benefits of reducing noise between rooms and outside, securing a warmer home and consequently a lowered energy bill, there are health benefits to it as well.

According to CSR Bradford’s website, noise has the ability to raise stress, disrupt sleep and generally cause a lower quality of life. Bradford Gold is also Sensitive Choice® approved, meaning it is allergy and asthma friendly!

If you wish to ensure a quieter and peaceful home environment, it may be well-worth checking out Bradford Acoustic Gold:

“CSR Bradford’s Acoustic Gold is a product that provides superior acoustic insulation benefits with added thermal benefits to make your home more comfortable.

The minimisation of noise has become a significant environmental issue in an increasingly noisy world. At home, work or on holidays, we all value our peace and quiet. Acoustic Gold dramatically reduces unwanted noise transfer through walls and between floors, allowing you to create the peace and quiet we all want to enjoy.”
